As wide as three football fields, BP’s Thunder Horse is the largest moored semi-submersible oil platform in the world, located in 1,920 meters (6,300 ft) of water in the Mississippi Canyon Block 778/822, about 150 miles (240 km) southeast of New Orleans. Construction costs were about five billion USD, and the platform is expected to operate for 25 years.
