Pride Parade
-
BP’s Pride team rides company-sponsored floats in Houston to demonstrate support for BP’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-gender) employees and to promote the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
LAST YEAR, NEARLY 100 participants distributed BP-themed green and yellow beads and other souvenirs. The Houston chapter of BP Pride, BP’s LGBT affinity group, coordinated efforts here.
At the Houston Pride Parade on the evening of June 27, BP Pride Houston participated for the sixth time in as many years, along with Mayor Bill White, other elected officials, and 90 organizations including companies large and small and community support groups.
More than 50 BP employees, contractors, friends, family members, and supporters threw beads to 150,000 parade watchers from a float displaying two massive Helios banners.
Awareness
BP Pride members believe that participation in the parades creates awareness about BP policies for current and future LGBT employees, and serves as a marketing tool.
BP Pride also believes that participation supports this statement by BP CEO Tony Hayward on the BP D&I Global website: “I believe strongly that we need a work environment where everyone can bring all of themselves to work every day and not feel like they have to be someone else in order to succeed.”
